What is a Challenge Group?
Picture this.... you are unhappy with your body, your health, and your nutrition. You weigh your options and make the decision to buy an at home workout program. You think to yourself, "I got this... I want those before and after results... I want to look better, feel better and eat better... I got this." Then your DVD arrives in the mail (or maybe you bought it at a store.. but I am going to go out on a limb and say you bought an awesome and amazing Beachbody DVD program).. and you still say to yourself, "I got this."
You read all the material that came with it, you hung up your calendar, you made plans. Then you start your program. Gosh! It's hard! You are sore, tired and grumpy (because you are also following the meal plan that came with it because you spent your hard earned money and want everything out of it that you can get). You stick with it for a week or two, but life gets in the way... or you remember that great pizza place you really love... then you head to a party where there is cake and cookies and lots of bad (yummy) food!! Ugh! It's hard! You slip a little. Then you slip a lot. The next thing you know, that DVD is collecting dust and you can't remember the last time you had a really healthy, good for you meal.
Welcome to the cycle of my life a few years ago! What happened?! What is missing? I will tell you what is missing because it is the ONE thing that made a difference in my journey... A COACH and A CHALLENGE GROUP... okay that is two things... but they come as a package deal.
You may ask yourself, why do I need a coach and what the heck is a challenge group? Well, let me rewind our little story above and tell you why you need those two things. ------>
Picture this.... you are unhappy with your body, your health, and your nutrition. You weigh your options and make the decision to buy an at home workout program through your very own Team Beachbody coach! (You don't have one? Let me be YOURS... click the link at the top of the page and sign up for your free account with me) You then receive an email and some information about my upcoming challenge group. I explain to you that your challenge group is a private Facebook group of like-minded people who are all my customers and other coaches. We are all POSITIVE and UPLIFTING people who only want the best for you. We support and motivate you and help you set and reach your goals. You think to yourself, "I got this... I want those before and after results... I want to look better, feel better and eat better... I got this and can't wait to share it with my challenge group." Then your DVD arrives in the mail (because you ordered your awesome and amazing Beachbody program through your coach).. and you still say to yourself, "I got this." And your challenge group says "you got this!!!"
You read all the material that came with it, you hung up your calendar, you made plans, you had some questions and got the answers you need through your coach and the support of other challengers. Then you start your program. Gosh! It's hard! You are sore, tired and grumpy (because you are also following the meal plan that came with it because you spent your hard earned money and want everything out of it that you can get). You remember that pizza place you love and think about ordering a WHOLE pizza just for yourself... you post in the challenge group and all your supporters give you some healthy alternatives, you eat healthy and are happy :) then you head to a party where there is cake and cookies and lots of bad (yummy) food!! Ugh! It's hard! You remember your plan, and the motivation you are getting from all those awesome new Beachbody friends. You stick to your plan. The next thing you know, 5 weeks have passed and you have lost weight, your clothes fit better, heck maybe you even had to buy NEW clothes (!!!) and most importantly, you feel amazing.
So, which story sounds like a better plan? Anything is hard when you go at it alone.... having a coach and a challenge group to have your back makes being successful with your health and fitness that much more likely to happen.
Let me give you a little breakdown in the life of a day in a challenge group. First and foremost, the challenge group provides unparalleled 24/7 support and motivation. I love checking into my group and seeing everyone's sweaty selfies, or healthy recipes they have tried, and I love helping anyone who may be struggling because I know that I have been there before and it SUCKS. Throughout my coach "career" I have done a lot of reading and research about health and fitness and clean eating so I feel like I have some pretty good resources about those subjects. I am not an expert, and not a licensed professional, but I research for myself and am always willing to pass along that information for my challengers. But most importantly the sense of community in a challenge group is unbelievable. I have made the most amazing friendships through my challenge groups. So, a typical day for me would be to take the silliest post workout picture of myself (the sweaty selfie) and post it in the group. Not everyone likes to do this and that is OKAY, but I do. It keeps me accountable and shows my fellow challengers that I am committed to my own health and fitness. Then later, I might share a funny quote or something motivational that I found that others may enjoy. I comment on everyone's posts and post something healthy to eat. Some days, I actually post what I am eating and include a recipe with it. Occasionally, I will post bonuses to get everyone up and off the couch. Just quick one minute exercises for friendly competition.
I can't say enough good things about challenge groups. When I started this journey, I was really intimidated by the challenge group I was in... there were all these awesome fit people in it.. and I was just getting started. But I posted daily, and checked in, and made the recipes that my coach was posting and the next thing I knew, I was a coach myself and hosting my own challenge groups. I honestly know in my heart that without that challenge group, there was probably an 80% chance of me quitting.
Like I said, anything is hard when you go at it alone. You do not have to be alone in this. It is still going to be hard. You are going to be sore, and grumpy... but I can promise you that it is worth all of that. I look at my pictures from last year and I don't even know that woman anymore. She was sad, depressed, overweight, unhealthy, out of breath, her hair was falling out, she was afraid of failure and even though she smiled, she was flat out disappointed with herself.
Take control. Don't be afraid of failure.
And now for the shameless plug! Come on, you knew it was coming :)
