New Baby Steps

ARE YOU READY FOR A CHANGE?

You know that old saying about taking baby steps when you are doing something new, something scary, something you never thought you would or could do?

Well, I have been taking baby steps for over 2 years.

Never did I ever think those baby steps would take me so far!  Don't underestimate those little baby steps.

Today is the day.  It is the last day of the year.  It is time to stop standing in the same place, stop with the same old habits, stop with the excuses!  I promise you that your small efforts, your baby steps, will pay off.

Today is a day of reflection.  And I want to reflect on some things I know to be true for me in the hopes that they will help YOU find what you need.

1. You do not NEED someone to hold your hand. You may need someone to guide you, but you do not need them to hold your hand.  You will want support and motivation, yes.  Grab an accountability partner or sign up to have me as your coach!  But that is all you need.  You have to do the work.  You have to show up every day.  You have to own your mistakes.  You have to make the decisions.  Not me, not someone else.  You.

2.  Focus on putting one foot in front of the other.  Literally.  These are those baby steps I am talking about.  Do you have a big weight loss goal for 2016?  Of course!  And that is wonderful!  But focus on the steps (baby steps) you have to take in order to get there.  If you focus on that big (awesome) goal, you may get frustrated easier and give up prematurely.  I don't want that for you!!

3.  Eat. Real. Food.  For the love of GOD!  Please stop putting crap in your mouth that tastes good but has zero nutritional value!  I'm talking to myself here, as I am sitting in a Christmas cookie coma right now. But... seriously.... let's work on getting more WHOLE foods in your body and LESS processed foods and added sugars.  Do this one simple step and BIG changes will happen.  Period.

4.  Don't ever give up.  Did you know that 70% of people that start fitness programs GIVE UP!?!?!  That is CRAZY!  Well, actually it's not crazy because I see it happen all the time, and to be quite honest, I used to be in that 70% chunk hanging my head in shame when every one else's words came true -- "HA!  You will never follow through with that diet/gym membership/eliptical plan of yours"  Ouch.  That hurts.  Stop it right now.  Prove them all wrong.  Prove that stupid little doubtful voice in your head wrong.  Don't be in the 70%.  I have been to the other side and it's amazing.  Hitting goals. Losing weight. Gaining confidence and happiness.... amazing!  Don't.  Give.  Up.  You are more amazing that you give yourself credit for.  I am NO different than you.  I just didn't give up.

5.  Make a dream board and put some crazy ass goals on there for 2016.  What is in your heart?  What do you want to do that might be wild or scary or wonderful this year?  I'm working on my dream board right now and trust me.... I'm not sure 2016 will be long enough but I'm gonna try my hardest to see all of those goals and dreams come true.  You just never know what you will accomplish if you just keep plugging away at those goals and digging for that diamond.  If you would have told me a year ago that I would be the weight loss feature in HEALTH MAGAZINE (!!!!!) I would have called you a liar.  But what I know is that I just keep reaching for my goals.  I worked hard.  And it PAID. OFF.  It is a lot easier to talk about your goals and dreams.... but if you are intentional and you can visualize your dreams... it's more likely that they will become a reality.

That's it.  Simple, right?  Now, implement it.  Don't let it be daunting.  Don't just put your health on the "list" of things to take care of this year.  Commit.  And when you think that you feel like giving up on it in a few weeks or months from now, call me... email me... text me... message me on FB, whatever you have to do.  Because I have been there, MANY times, and most of those times my pride would have definitely gotten in the way of reaching out for help... but looking back I wish I just had.

2016.

52 weeks.

366 days. (Leap year baby! We get an extra day to reach our goals!)

It's a whole YEAR.  We get a whole year to reach our goals.  You got this.  I got this.  Let's do it!

Baby steps.  Together.

Happy New Year!!!
