Obsessed Much?

Ever since I started my health and fitness journey, I have met just as much criticism as I have support.  I guess you could chalk it up to part of human nature?  The need to put someone else down... when jealousy strikes?
I don't know.
I am not that person.
I don't go that route.
I don't play that game.

The line I seem to get the most?  "You are OBSESSED with your workouts"

Um.  Ok.  Not a bad thing to be "obsessed" about.  If by obsessed, you mean that I make sure to take time every day to work on me... or to ensure a healthier future for my family and myself... or that I inspire others by my journey... or maybe it's the fact that I have LOST almost 50 pounds in the past two years and am healthier than I have ever been..  then, yeah, I guess I am "obsessed."

Again.  Not a bad thing to be obsessed about.
(I will stop using the " " since that means it's not real... I. Am. Obsessed.)

I wasn't always obsessed with working out.  There was a time that I started and failed every attempt to a healthier lifestyle.  So, what changed?  Habits are just as easy to break as they are to start... if you just start.  Here are some tips on becoming obsessed... like me.

I think the number one reason we don't stick to a fitness plan is that be become DISCOURAGED.  The number one reason for being discouraged by a workout routine?  Difficulty.  Try something at your current level.  Just get into a routine to get you past that hump.  Something I always tell my challengers is to put their heads down and focus on the day-to-day.  Meaning, set your goal... FOR THE DAY and that day ONLY.  That way, one workout seems more doable than a month's worth of workouts.  Reaching your goal for the day, every single day will pump you up and ENcourage you instead of DIScourage you.  Before you know it, you will have weeks worth of workouts under your belt and a sense of accomplishment that will propel you into the obsessed zone.

Speaking of day-to-day goals... give yourself INSTANT perks and incentives  Meet your goal for the day? Treat yourself to a bubble bath.  Meet your goal for the week?  Take yourself window shopping or treat yourself to a pedicure (or if you are a dude... maybe a nice long drive with the windows down or a new book to get into).  Met your goals for the ENTIRE month?  How about some new workout gear?  What will excite you to get working out more than a new pair of sweet kicks or an outfit?!  I don't know, because that sure excites me!

Another great little nugget of advice... NO MORE DOUBT!  Stop doubting yourself.  Think of yourself as an ATHLETE.  From the beginning.  Period.  Are you doing athletic stuff?  No?  Are you sure?  Are you running, lifting weights, stretching like a pro?  Then you, my friend, are an athlete.  So start acting like one!  Athletes don't doubt themselves.  They don't allow that negative self-talk into their heads.  If the I-Can't-Do-It's creep into your head... push them right back out.  Say it out loud.

"YES I CAN"

Be OK with where you are in your journey, be positive, stop the doubt and changes will happen.

Now, go out there and get active today so you can look back at all your old pictures of yourself with complete embarrassment... then excitement because you can see how FAR YOU HAVE COME!
