My "Magic Formula"
Someone said to me the other day (about her current situation) that she just wishes there were a handbook. Gah! If I only had a dollar for every time I said that. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a handbook for dealing with the drama of growing up, for dating, for having a family, dealing with birth, death.... EVERY DAY LIFE?!
But there isn't. And we have to learn as we go and make our own handbooks for our OWN lives. My way isn't better than your way, and your way isn't better than someone else's way. It is just different. My book changes every day. What worked for me yesterday will most certainly not work for me today. I try to stay consistent with my every day routines, but those "handbook" routines just don't fit some times. Here is what I DO know though about pretty much everything in life, if you have the following three things, you will succeed at whatever it is that you are working at:
1. Time
2. Dedication
3. Commitment
Think about it. This can pertain to anything you have going on in your life.
Weightloss - it doesn't happen overnight, you need TIME and the dedication to do it every day and the commitment to what works for you RIGHT NOW (not what worked for you in your teens, or 20s, or 30s....)
Dating - Time to meet the right person, dedication of your heart to that person, and commitment for the long run.
Making a family, death of a loved one... time, dedication and commitment all go hand in hand.
So let's be a little more specific here... because let's face it, this is mostly a health and fitness blog! ;-)
I cannot even tell you how many times I have been told that at home workout programs don't work. Drinking Shakeology doesn't work. Well, you know what?? I walk the walk, not just talk the talk. I am proof that it all DOES work. I have done multiple different programs and they have all delivered me amazing results.... but ONLY because I gave it TIME, I dedicated (and sacrificed) for it, and I committed once I decided on what it was I was going to be doing. My current program is Insanity Asylum. It is a 30 day program and it is HARD. There have been many days that I thought about stopping and just going back to Piyo or T25 (my "easier" DVDs), but I remind myself that I gave my time to the 30 days, I am dedicated to my meal plan and my workouts and I commit EVERY SINGLE DAY to finishing those workouts.
It works. It really does. I am not any different than you. I don't possess some super human power to resist temptation or strength to get through the workouts. I just DO IT. And I am not perfect either. My 7 year old BEGGED me for cookies the other night. I gave in and made homemade chocolate chip cookies. I subbed out the white flour for whole wheat, the white sugar for organic cane sugar and honey and the butter for coconut oil... but in the end they are still cookies.... and I still ate them. Two of them, right out of the oven! And it is OK! I know that my time, dedication and commitment won't be ruined by those two cookies. So again, I say, I am not any different from you. You can do this too.
No matter when you start this, it is going to be hard. Just START. Take baby steps. That's what I did. I didn't procrastinate any more, but I did take it one day at a time. After almost 18 months I can say without a doubt that taking it one day at a time made all the difference in the world. Time is going to pass anyways, don't waste another second thinking you can't do this.
Ahhhh, I don't know where I am going with this all, it is one of those posts that my thoughts take me in multiple directions! So I will end this with some before and after pics.... because that is always fun. Real people, getting real results. No crash diets, no gimmicks... just straight up TIME, DEDICATION and COMMITMENT!
Here is a Before and After of me: The before was around end of July/beginning of August 2013 and the after was just a few weeks ago (October 2014). I remember feeling so proud of myself in the first pic... for getting a workout in that day, for taking my baby steps... all the while in my head thinking of making some epic before and after pics! Hard to believe..... :) (these results are courtesy of T25, P90X3 and PiYo - 38 lbs down and counting!)
Next up is my awesome hubby! He started this journey with me. We worked out together EVERY SINGLE DAY for 3 months straight until going our separate ways with our programs. He started all of this at 210 lbs and today's weight is 174 lbs! He also did T25 and P90X3 but also did Insanity Asylum. So proud of him!!
And lastly, I would like to share one of my challenger's results. Chris and his wife Josephine moved in across the street from us at the beginning of the summer this year. We met, and fitness was one of the first conversations we had (aside from the crazy brush fire that was threatening our homes... that was our first conversation!). They were ready to make some major changes in their lives and they continue to amaze me daily with their dedication and commitment! Chris, since June 30th 2014, has lost 26 lbs and 2 pants sizes!! I cannot WAIT to see where this journey takes them a year from now :)
Are you ready? Don't wait a second longer! Please don't hesitate to contact me so I can help you find the right program and get you plugged in to an amazing support group! And don't forget to check out this month's amazing deal with Team Beachbody!
