Asylum: Crazy or Badass?

So.... I'm kind of a bad ass.  I don't like to toot my own horn very often, but I have to brag on myself a little about starting, AND completing, my first 30 days of Insanity: Asylum.

First, let me break this all down for you.
I am about to get technical on you!

What the what?  What is Asylum?
Insanity: The Asylum is a first for in-home workouts.
  • It uses sports-specific training based on drills used by pro athletes designed to get you leaner,    quicker and stronger than ever.
  • It was created by fitness expert, Shaun T who you may know from his other programs; Insanity and T25.
  • This is a 30 day program designed for graduates of Insanity, P90X or other advanced fitness programs or people who are already in good physical shape and are looking to take their fitness results to the next level.
You want to know why it works... other than you are kicking ass every time you press play.....
Shaun T has developed a model called the Athletic Matrix, which used dynamic multi-directional movements to activate multiple muscle groups at the same time.

What do you get when you (decide you are crazy enough) and purchase this program?  Here is what is included in the "Base Kit" --
  • 6 featured workouts, plus 2 bonus workouts on 6 DVDs. (approx 45 minutes a day)
  • Agility ladder
  • Speed rope (which by the way is hilarious in itself if you have never jumped rope...gahhh!)
  • Asylum workout calendar
  • Guide Playbook (step by step instructions... making this FOOL PROOF)
  • Get Shredded Nutrition Plan
  • Bonus Athletic Performance Assessment (aka The Fit Test from... you know where)
  • Bonus Overtime workout (which you will be m f'n all the way to the end.... just saying!)
*If you purchase the "Deluxe Kit" you get all of that plus a chin up bar and 3 resistance bands.*

Now what?  What else do you need?
Well you are going to need some space.  You'll need room to jump rope, move side to side and use the agility ladder.  The only other equipment I would recommend having is a set of resistance bands or hand weights for the Strength workout.

So, there is all the "technical" stuff, like I said there was going to be.  Now I am about to tell you my experience and how I decided that I am a BAD ASS!

I started this 30 day craziness on Sunday October 26th, 2014.  On that day, I did the "fit test" which is about 25 minutes of crazy back to back drills and you have to keep score with yourself.  You write down each workout and how many you were able to do in the allotted time frame.  (we will come back to this at the end when I show you why the 30 days of craziness works... oh and that is what it is called in our house... the 30 days of craziness)

I have to be honest....  I was scared to start this program.  I had done T25, P90X3 and PiYo up to this point, but committing for 30 days to a program that most MEN cringe at, scared me.  What if I couldn't do it, or finish it... wah wah wah.  I knew I had to get over my fears and just DO IT as Nike says.  That first day I also took my weight and measurements and "before picture" (again more on that at the end) like the good Beachbody coach that I am.  I am not going to lie... I thought I was going to pass out... or DIE that first day.  This is what most of the ends of my workouts looked like that first week.

But that first week came and went (with lots of breaks, swearing and mumbling incoherently under my breath most likely about how crazy Shaun T is), then the second week and before I knew it I was in the home stretch.  I know I am skipping over a lot... but I have to be honest with you, it was a huge sweaty long month, but I actually ENJOYED the workouts.  YES - they were hard, like REALLY hard.  YES - There were days I did NOT want to push play.  YES - I was semi mad that there were only two built in REST days... WTF!?   AND YES - The Game Day plus Overtime is as HORRIBLE as it sounds.  Like imagine the hottest day ever, then playing every single sport known to man as fast as you can in an hour... taking a 2 minute break to make sure you weren't going into cardiac arrest... then continuing with Overtime which was 13 minutes of pure .... well you know what.

But I did it.

I completed 30 days.  I never skipped a day.  I never switched workouts.  I followed the calendar.
I stuck to the plan.  I trusted the process.

Did I all of the sudden bust out with some crazy six pack abs??  No.  But, then again I don't think my body is made to show the abs individually.  Some people are made that way.  I can feel mine, they are there and they are STRONG.  But what I have is some serious leg and arm definition going on that I am LOVE - ING.

Alright, get to the good stuff already!!!  I do have a few more things I would like to say before I show you my results.  I did NOT follow the meal plan (I regret not doing that but having a family relying on my cooking, sometimes the program meal plans go out the window... in this case it did).  So my nutrition was not completely up to par and I know that my results could have been a teensy bit better but that is OK.   I still ate clean and drank my Shakeology (uh duh!) every single day.  I have to remind myself, as I do all of my challengers and YOU, readers of my silly blog... that this is a LIFEstyle, not a once in a while.  Meaning, it is ok if I didn't go crazy with sticking to the T with the meal plan (aaaahhhhhh I hear Shaun T yelling at me right now for saying that) but for me, it was ok.  And once again, I want to emphasize that I was SCARED to start this program so just finishing it (and finishing it well) was results enough!  Speaking of results ........

FIT TEST DRILLS

WEIGH IN & MEASUREMENTS

And the before and after pics!

I feel like there needs to be a disclaimer here. So before you go asking questions or nay saying any of this, here and understand this.  NO, I am not sucking my stomach in for the after pic, I did lose an INCH around my waist and my abs are SO much stronger now, this is my relaxed posture now.  Notice in the second pic, you can see that my sports bra is now loose, not from wear but because I lost 1.25 inches around my chest!  And the third pic speaks for itself.  The definition of my arm muscles is unreal now!  So... well that was my experience with Insanity: The Asylum.  As hard as it was, it was good... it was great!  Who am I kidding I LOVED IT!!!!

If you want a BAD ASS workout... and BE a bad ass, then THIS is going to be your next workout.  It's ok to be scared and ok to say you can't do it... right now.  But do it some day.  You got this!

There is MORE!  What?  More?  Yes, more.  Insanity: The Asylum is part of Beachbody's Black Friday sale going on RIGHT NOW through December 2nd.  Here is the direct link for this program:

And if you would like to see what the other Black Friday deals Beachbody has going on, here is the link for ALL of the good stuff! :)

For those of you interested in FULL committing and getting the best results possible, you are going to want to add in Shakeology, your daily dose of super food nutrition.  Here is the link for the "challenge pack" which will include Asylum Base Kit and a month of Shakeology at a package price... too good to pass up (and FYI, my favorite flavor is Vegan Chocolate... another FYI, while supplies last, the next 5 orders to come through my online site get a Shakeology shaker cup for FREE, my gift to you)

I will end this with some of the crazy sweaty selfies I took while doing this program... it is LEGIT!  As always, thank you for reading.  I am here to answer any questions you have about this program, or any Beachbody program or supplement!

And finally... just for shiz and giggles... How far I have come ------>

I am down a TOTAL of 38.2 lbs and over 30 inches (from the main areas of measurement) off my body.  GONE.  Gone FOREVER!

Anyone can do this.  There is no magic.  There are no gimmicks.  Exercise and eating clean (and drinking Shakeology... you knew I was going to throw that in there!!)

MAKE TODAY COUNT PEOPLE!
Happy Thanksgiving!
