They are Watching You
Kids.
The kids are watching you. Your kids, your friend's kids, your nephews, nieces, neighbors, grandkids... just kids.
Kids love to learn from us. They are little sponges. They learn to walk and talk from us. They learn manners from us. They learn to be kind (or be mean) from us. They learn right and wrong from us. They grow up to be US.
Ok, maybe you aren't a parent (yet...) and maybe you never will be, but don't think for once second that you aren't impacting a child's life.
As a mother, I have a responsibility to raise GOOD, KIND, SMART, and HEALTHY children who will grow up and hopefully do the same. So I will continue to do my best to ensure that to happen.
In the meantime, I have noticed something lately... to be honest, my boys have typically always eaten healthy, good-for-them food but lately? They are begging for healthy foods. They are wanting to better themselves physically. And I LOVE THAT!!! I have overheard my 8 year-old talking to his little buddy about clean eating and why it's important. I have watched them take my agility ladder out and work on drills. I have seen them dripping sweat and loving it. And it's not just MY children, my best friend's daughter told me on the way home from school yesterday that she had picked up her mom's copy was reading my Clean Eating 101 book! (my heart melted a little!)
Now, before you say that I am a crazy mom drilling this lifestyle into my boys... I am not. They are simply watching and repeating. Not once have they heard me talk negatively about my body. They have however, WATCHED me lose over 40 lbs and keep it off. They have watched my process. They have watched my struggle. They have watched me sweat, eat right, and keep at this for OVER TWO YEARS.
My youngest doesn't remember mommy any other way. And I love that. I love that they are watching me. Am I perfect? NO! But I am trying. And they see that. They. Are. Watching. Me.
Now? They are duplicating me. They want to grow up to be strong and healthy and happy. They want to be active. They want to live a long, good life. But more importantly? I want that for them more than they will ever know. I don't want them to ever know the yo-yo struggle I knew. I don't want them to worry about high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, or any other inflammatory disease for that matter. I want them to prevent THOSE struggles to the best of their abilities. I want them to learn from my mistakes and WATCH how I fix them.
Children learn best by watching, observing and then trying for themselves. We can only influence them for so long before they go off being adults with their own audience of children, so let's be POSITIVE, let's show them the GOOD in this world, let's teach them how to be healthy and happy.
What children are watching you? How are you showing to the younger generation that you are constantly bettering yourself? How are you being a good example?
Can we allow this generation of children grow up to be an AMAZING generation of adults?
Let's SHOW them how.
